Getting Relief From Sports Related Foot Pain

If you participate in a sport and it causes you foot pain, then you should make an appointment to get in to see your podiatrist. There may be a medical explanation for the way your feet feel and the podiatrist may be able to treat the condition so you feel better. However, you also want to learn ways of relieving the pain when it comes, so you can feel better in the meantime. This article will give you some helpful tips on getting rid of foot pain using things you may already have around the house.

Use instant ice packs and rubber bands

One way to get relief from foot pain is to take two instant ice packs and place them on the bottoms of your feet, over your socks. Use a large rubber band to secure each ice pack to your feet. Make sure the rubber bands are tight enough to hold the ice packs on, but not so tight that you have to worry about them cutting down on the circulation to your feet. Prop your feet up and allow the ice packs to relieve the pain while you rest.

Soak your feet in warm water and Epsom salts

You can also get relief by soaking your feet in a tub filled with very warm water and some Epsom salts. Find a tub that's large enough to hold plenty of water and fit both of your feet. Add very warm water to it, but make sure it's not too hot. Then, mix in about a quarter of a cup of Epsom salts and soak your feet. Epsom salts have properties that help to improve circulation and relieve aches and pains.

Roll your feet on frozen water bottles

Small plastic water bottles are the perfect size and shape to help with foot pain. Fill them up with water and place them in your freezer until they are completely frozen. Sit in a comfortable seat and place a frozen bottle under each foot. Roll them from the base of your toes to your heels, then repeat the process for as long as you need. The pressure will help in a way similar to that of a massage and the coldness will help with inflammation, as well as pain.
